Amazon Room Makeover: Shop the Look

Updated: Feb 4, 2020

Admit it...there are excess living spaces in your home that you refuse to spend money on. That mismatched guest room, that you don't actually want your guests to see...you know what I'm talking about.

It hurts to drop a ton of cash on a room you won't really ever go in, so you either keep the door closed, or you let yourself be exposed to the ugly every time you walk by.

That's depressing.

What if I told you that you could completely re-do that entire room with just a few clicks on Amazon? [I don't have to tell you, you already know this, because Amazon Prime is your weakness.]

Well, I recently was sourcing for a friend's low-budget project (a guest room LOL) and found myself on Amazon...the last place I would ever think to buy home decor. Little did I know, Amazon isn't what it used to be. It has different sellers who carry a multitude of products...I was shocked when I saw some of my favorite designer brands on there.

BUT I WAS THE MOST SHOCKED BY THE DESIGNER DUPES.

Y'all, almost everything was under $100. What?!

I ended up scouring Amazon all day, and then all night. I couldn't stop comparing prices. By 4:00 in the morning, I had compiled a huge list of designer dupes to save for future projects.

If you know me, then you know I love to play dress-up with interior selections. So I threw together several design concepts using items from my list, and decided to share these secret finds with you guys in a series of blog posts. Today I am sharing this breezy bedroom concept. It's January, everything outside is dead, and I'm ready for warmer weather and sun...and this gray/ivory/rust color scheme is giving me major summer vibes.

You don't need all new furniture, or even all new bedding, to overhaul your space and give it that designer touch. You can start this look with plain white bedding, and the rest is already done for you (~yOu'RE wElComE~).

  • Area rug: Anchor your room and add a splash of color with an area rug. I found this vintage medallion rug for only $70 and it for real looks like it costs $700. The rust and gray sold me immediately...something about those color tones just gave me good vibes.

  • Accent pillows: I pulled colors from the rug when selecting these. I found this velvet burnt orange pillow cover for less than $10...not even lying. To pull out the gray in the rug, I found these $15 velvet pillow covers in gray and they are perfect for filling with down inserts for an extra luxurious feel.

  • Throw blanket: I found this chenille tassel throw blanket in a large size for only $35, and the woven pattern makes it look so much more expensive than it really is. I also loved how large the tassels were...sort of gave the concept a Moroccan vibe.

  • Bench: Depending on your room, you could either use the bench at the foot of your bed or against a wall. This linen tufted upholstery and black metal base bench really goes with anything, so you can't do it wrong. I couldn't believe I found a bench this large for just $375. This linen tufted bench is 60" wide, and has a heavy base too. I like how expensive it looks...I have a feeling i'll use this a lot in future projects for auxiliary seating.

  • Mirror: This is probably the best score in this concept. This large round mirror with a black frame was only $80, and you can find the exact same one at HobLob for $100. You can hang this over a chest, a dresser, or over the bench if you choose to place it against a wall.

  • Greenery: I am an expert plant killer, and I know you probably are too. I thought it was pretty sweet when I found these 24" Monstera leaf stems in a 3-pack for only $15...that's only $5 each. Every room needs a little greenery, even if it's fake. It provides the room with a touch of zen. [PS I hate the word zen and everybody who uses it]

  • Vase: While searching for something to hold the stems in, I discovered this gorgeous iron vase. It's the perfect size, around 10" high, so it can double as a shelf accent if you don't use it as a vase. I am always swapping my accessories from room to room, mixing and matching to create new looks in my home. So if you're anything like me, you'll appreciate this vase especially because the finish can go with any color or surface. The mix of burnished brass, bronze, and copper give it that artifact look, too.
